Mitchell Moses has had a seat at the table during a rugby league masterclass. Now it’s his time to produce one for NSW.
The quartet caught up at Maroubra Seals, where the wily old coach imparted decades of wisdom to the rising halfback.
“Wok takes coins, I take some coins, and he said, ‘Righto Mitchell, we’ve got a three-on-three short side or a five-five split’. It’s like rugby league heaven. “If anyone leaves any elbow room, blokes with speed can be lethal. That’s something I’m seeing him do, he’s developing. That’s what happens with intelligent players, particularly those blessed with the speed that he’s got.”For evidence, look no further than Moses’ work down the short side. Combining blinding speed with rat cunning, he can find space where there seemingly is none, even down the tightest corridors.
“When he was at Wests Tigers before he came over, you could see that when he did take the short sides, he was really effective at it,” Arthur says. “He probably didn’t do it enough. Just with the style of footy that we were playing, we were big on playing short sides and he is really good at it. Mitchy obviously had to work on it and improve how he does it, but he’s bought into it.”Much has been written about Moses’ kicking game.
