Damien Hardwick formally announces the end of his reign at Richmond after 13 completed seasons and 307 games at the helm. Watch live here
The three-time premiership coach has called it quits after 13 completed seasons and 307 games at the helm. Andrew McQualter will take over as interim coach.“It all became a little too much.” Hardwick said, fighting back tears as he acknowledged the club and his family, describing his career as “a hell of a journey”.
CEO Brendon Gale described Hardwick’s tank as empty and president John O’Rourke said Hardwick’s decision had come as a shock.“While his three premierships will be the headline, he’s given our club so much more. He’s taught about genuine care, connection and genuine storytelling,” he said. “I’ve tried to cook the sausage 1000 different ways, and I couldn’t find 1001, so I think the players deserve a new voice that will hopefully give them that spark to hopefully lead to something that could be pretty special this year.”Hardwick started in 2010 when the Tigers were on their knees, lifting the club from the cellar for one the great modern dynasties.
