Prosecutors have been ordered to hand over police statements and body-worn footage of the police shooting of an Indigenous man who has been charged with assaulting officers.
Prosecutors have been ordered to hand over a preliminary brief of evidence against an Indigenous man who was shot by Northern Territory police earlier this year, as the case appeared in court for the first time.He was later charged with assaulting police, going armed in public and recklessly endangering lifePeter Skeen, 20,
"I requested a brief three weeks ago … I received a preliminary brief this morning which contained a single police officer's statement, not [from] any of the officers involved in the shooting," defence lawyer Clancy Dane said. Mr Dane said the initial brief indicated the statements of the officers involved in the shooting, and the footage from their body-worn cameras, had been provided to prosecutors.
