From the noise around Ken Hinkley’s future as Port Adelaide coach, to whether Port Adelaide’s defence is sound enough to win the Power a premiership, star defender Aliir Aliir has made a habit of blocking it out.
This season, Port Adelaide have been in the spotlight for many reasons, and Aliir has been in the centre of some of it.
Blocking out the noise has been a theme at Alberton. From as early as round three, there were calls for Hinkley to walk given his 10-year stint before 2023 had failed to provide the club with another premiership.“I think the way he communicates with his players, I think that’s why a lot of us players are connected to him,” Aliir said.
Last weekend’s loss to Brisbane Lions dented their premiership ambitions, but Port Adelaide have earned the right for a second chance, and the players are taking a half-glass full approach against GWS.“We’ve got a very good mix of young and old that are playing well, and our confidence and belief in what we’re doing and what the coaches are doing has been great throughout the whole year,” Aliir said.“Obviously, behind closed doors we’ve always been confident in the way we’ve been able to play.
As for Aliir’s own form, he says getting 100 games under his belt by late last year put him in good stead to find a level of consistency this season.
