“Nobody will ever drag my son’s name like they are doing because my son was a good kid he was not raised like that,” Kimberly Alexander, the mother of Avantae Alexander, told WAAY.
The mother of the 14-year-old north Alabama boy who was shot and killed Sunday morning in an attempted robbery involving five juveniles denied police claims that her son was armed or attempting to rob the victim.
According to Decatur investigators, a 14-year-old male was asked by three male acquaintances, two 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old, to meet them at 21st Ave. Southeast in an attempt to rob him. The juvenile, who was asked to meet the three acquaintances, was armed with a pistol. Kimberly Alexander identified her son, Avantae, as the juvenile who was killed, while speaking to reporters Monday at Decatur police headquarters.
Three juveniles involved in the incident were charged with murder and robbery and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Tuscumbia. Due to their ages, names will not be released.
