Nicole Daedone, OneTaste’s founder and former CEO, and Rachel Cherwitz, the company’s former head of sales, face charges of forced labor conspiracy in connection to their leadership of the company. Cherwitz, a Mendocino County resident, was arrested in San Francisco Tuesday,At one point, OneTaste had five global locations — including its downtown San Francisco “retreat” next to Uber's offices — where a yearlong membership ran up to $60,000 a year.
The federal indictment, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, alleges that Daedone, 56, and Cherwitz, 43, intentionally targeted vulnerable individuals and induced them to rack up more debt to attend OneTaste classes, including by helping them open credit cards to pay for classes. The two allegedly engaged in “tactics” to make these individuals reliant on OneTaste. Absolute devotion to Daedone was required of members, the statement alleges, and devotion was exploited.
