A public health warning has been issued in New South Wales following the first recorded case of the viral disease in almost half a year, with one group of men particularly at-risk of infection.
Men susceptible to the infectious disease have also been told to get a vaccine if they are not already vaccinated.
A global mpox outbreak was confirmed in May last year with more than 87,000 cases reported worldwide.Diagnoses revealed that 100 per cent of cases in NSW occurred in men who have sex with men, with most being infected during international travel. All NSW cases from 2022 have recovered, however, a few deaths related to the disease were recorded overseas.
The first symptoms appear in the form of small pimple-like lesions which later spread and develop pus then turn flaky.
