'We are devastated that we couldn’t save her after all she has been through'
Staff at an animal sanctuary have spoken of their 'devastation' after a mother cat who was found dumped in a bag with her four kittens died following 'high risk' surgery.
They rang Bleakholt for help and cat rescuer Rosie Allan raced down and collected four kittens but couldn’t capture the 18-month-old mum cat. They appealed for help and a lady later trapped Penelope before being reunited with her babies. However after arriving at Bleakholt, vets discovered that part of her small intestine had dropped down into another part. A spokesperson said: "She needed emergency surgery which she had and got through ok.
"This condition is more likely in young cats that have had severe worms and litters of kittens. Sadly this was the case for beautiful Penelope.Bleakholt manager Karen Weed previous said the black kittens were found "dumped in a wooden area in a bag near a main road and one of them had wandered out".
