England then had a penalty awarded in the 51minute when Saka was hacked down, Harry Kane slammed home past his clubmate. Southgate’s side were level.However, Olivier Giroud punished England five minutes when he headed home from close range.
England won another penalty straight after when Mount was pushed in the box by Theo Hernandez, but Kane hit it over the bar and seemingly took England’s hopes with it. A late rally from England produced nothing of note and France saw the game out, despite a free kick from Marcus Rashford coming close in the ninth minute of added time.
