Two of Australia's brightest swimming stars have heartbreakingly missed out on medalling in the 100 metre freestyle at the Paris Olympic Games.

"I didn't know that I would be here or get to this point, so to be in that final with such amazing women was really special. I'm going to carry that forward for the rest of the week and use that to get the fire in my belly going to the end," the 25-year-old said.
