The heartbroken uncle of a young surfer who was stabbed to death near a popular New South Wales beach is urgently imploring the government to adopt a law that could see hundreds of sharp weapons, such as knives, removed from the streets.

He was found with multiple stab wounds and treated by paramedics before being rushed to a nearby hospital. Police confirmed some hours later the man had died.The surfer's uncle, only known as Ralph, said the surfer's family is"broken". Less than one year later, Raymond Harris, 27, was killed in the same Gold Coast suburb when he was stabbed with a hunting knife in front of horrified onlookers.
"He was just coming back from the surf… what on earth is going on. Give the police these powers. It saves lives. Do your job."
