An extreme heatwave is expected to set in across northern parts of Western Australia and the Top End next week while Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra are also forecast to experience a hot weekend.
Regional centres are likely to experience higher temperatures than coastal areas with Dubbo expected to hit 38 degrees celsius by next Saturday and Broken Hill forecasted to reach 40 degrees.
The region is forecasted to hover at 40 degrees celsius all week before skyrocketing to 45 degrees celsius on Sunday. Thunderstorms and flooding have already hit the country over the past few weeks and are expected to continue - resulting in a hot, wet summer according to scientists.
