A heat wave driving temperatures to 100 degrees and beyond will roast Southern California early this week, forecasters say.
An excessive heat warning begins Monday and will be in effect until Tuesday night for the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. The San Fernando Valley is expected to see some of the hottest temperatures in the region, ranging from 105 to 110 degrees, said Mike Wofford, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Coastal areas of Los Angeles County can expect highs in the 80s to 90s early this week, including 87 degrees in Long Beach and 80 degrees in Redondo Beach by Monday. Some San Gabriel Valley spots, including Pasadena and West Covina, should experience over 100-degree weather for the next two days. The Inland Empire is forecast to see temperatures from 100 to 104 degrees on Sunday, and that’s likely to rise early in the week. An excessive heat warning is in effect until Tuesday evening for San Bernardino, Riverside, and Hemet, where temperatures could reach up to 107 degrees.In Orange County, inland cities such as Irvine and Anaheim should see temperatures from the high 90s to nearly 100 degrees throughout Monday and Tuesday.
By Wednesday, cooler temperatures are expected to kick in and continue through the rest of the week, Oswant said.
