"Between Thursday and Saturday we are starting to see severe heatwave conditions in the southern parts of the state, extending over a more significant area of NSW into the weekend and next week," she said."With the increasing heat and winds, the fire danger will worsen into the new week, with Monday and Tuesday most likely to be the most significant fire weather days.

South Australian firefighters used Christmas Day to try to bring the devastating Adelaide Hills bushfire under control ahead of the heat in coming days. Christmas Day brought flare-ups throughout the day with crews attending to breakouts and undertaking asset protection, emergency services said. Other areas of Queensland are forecast to experience thunderstorms today including Mackay, Rockhampton and Cairns.Western AustraliaInland areas of Western Australia are predicted to reach above 40C today with Newman and Pannawonica forecast to soar above 45C.
