Here are the 2019 MacArthur 'genius grant' winners: by rachsandl

The fellowship comes with a no-strings-attached stipend of $625,000 paid out in equal quarterly installments over five years. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation says recipients can use the grant money “to advance their expertise, engage in bold new work, or, if they wish, to change fields or alter the direction of their careers.”
Fellows are chosen by external committee, so winners receive surprise phone calls if they’re selected.Ten of the fellows are writers or artists. Four are academics studying the environment, with two focusing on sea-level rise. Three of the fellows are activists working to achieve criminal justice reform.creator Lin-Manuel Miranda , David Foster Wallace , Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie , Junot Díaz and Alison Bechdel .
