Climate models predict that these warming weather trends will eventually decimate ski week and wreak havoc on the industry: By 2100, Tahoe will likely see a 3.6- to 9-degree temperature increase, and the area is already experiencing “precipitation whiplash” — extreme weather that swings like a pendulum between dry and wet conditions.
“Climate change has arrived,” Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, told SFGATE in 2021. “We’re already living in a different place than when 20th century policies, and water management infrastructure and flood control infrastructure developed.”
