Scott Siranat, a dual nationality Thai-Scottish conservationist, was on patrol with marine officers when he spotted the tourist flailing off Koh Hong island in Krabi province on August 29.

The 25-year-old did not hesitate to plunge into the water and paddled his way towards the drowning man.Speaking in a video, Scott revealed that he was out with staff from the Than Bok Khorani National Park when he noticed a group of six tourists wading into the sea some 50 metres off the beach. The hero swimmer said: “I swam over to help him, and he grasped my shoulder as if he was asking for help.

A journey of about 30 kms on the map but is further in reality as he swam through strong, fast-flowing currents. Siranat studied in America and missed swimming in Thailand’s waters. He also collects the remains of old fishing nets from the water which could harm wildlife. Siranat explained that there is a lot of plastic waste in the sea.
