Reunited after more than four decades
Alistair Anthony, a Scottish holidaymaker had been walking with his terrier, Henry, along the Blackpool coast near Gynn Square. While playing fetch with is beloved dog, the 25-year-old ended up in the sea.
Abram was later taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital's intensive care unit and was listed as "critically ill". Hewitson, was able to stagger out of the water unaided. “I was unconscious and when I landed on the middle walk, I had stopped breathing. My heart had stopped and I was severely hypothermic. It’s only for a passing doctor who was a cave rescue member and a GP called Dr John Frankland that I’m here today and its elated me to meet him. He’s been every year up until Covid and then last year he wasn’t here.
The plaque together with the efforts the Lancashire police NARPO and the federation - will ensure that future memorials will continue to be every year for the foreseeable future.
