In a fascinating new interview, Hideki Kamiya from Platinum Games bemoans the lack of access to older games and that in doing so it is hampering the cultural development of gaming as a whole.

, the fact that these older games are not readily available is something that Kamiya rightly feels very strongly about.

There are two problems here, the first is that due to how intellectual property law works, the owners of said property must protect it. This is why Nintendo diligently hands out cease and desist letters all the time to unofficial projects that use their intellectual property. So games companies are in a pinch due to the way the law works. That said, they also use this to hold back classic games to increase demand and effectively get new money for old rope.

This situation results in the only true bastions protecting gaming heritage are the various emulator and game ROM sites littered across the internet, and this is hardly ideal.
