An exiled Liberal Party member’s legal challenge that threatened to sabotage Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s election campaign has been thrown out by the High Court.

“In our view, there is an insufficient prospect of appeal from that decision to warrant the grant of special leave,” Chief Justice Susan Kiefel said, adding Mr Camenzuli would have to pay the legal costs of Mr Morrison and the other Liberal figures he took on. NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Liberal figure Christine McDiven, who, with Mr Morrison, formed a small committee to handpick candidates, were also among the respondents in the court action, with Mr Stone and federal Liberal director Andrew Hirst among those Mr Camenzuli was seeking to add.
