The Toll Bridge, a 1960s former Home Ales tied house, was demolished a number of years ago and where it once stood in-between Bathley Street and the Victoria Embankment in The Meadows has been empty ever since
Nottingham City Council sold the land next to Wilford Toll Bridge, which gave the now-demolished pub its name, to developer MyPad last year. When previously asked about the future of the "rough" pub site which was known for "a lot of fighting", locals explained they would prefer to see it re-used as a green space as they believed it was too small for housing.
But housing company MyPad is currently carrying out a consultation on what it calls a "a mix of high-quality urban homes and apartments", comprising 10 two-bed apartments and 13 three-bed and three-storey houses. Neighbours have been asked for their opinions on the current plans, so that MyPad can examine feedback before submitting a planning application to the city council. The new homes would be accessed off Bathley Street at the north eastern corner of the site.
On the next steps after the consultation ends, MyPad said: "All feedback will be carefully considered and, where possible and appropriate, incorporated into the proposals. The planning application will be submitted to Nottingham City Council in the coming weeks." Speaking previously, retired Terry Thorpe, 69, from The Meadows, said: "That was my local, a good pub - it was good but punters used to get a bit rough, there was a lot of fighting."
