A Supreme Court judge sentences four men to at least a decade each behind bars for the brutal killing of a man they believed had left a series of bad reviews on social media about their gang and drug trade.
The other three men received head sentences ranging from 11 to 13 years."He was taken by surprise. He was attacked from both sides. He was not given any opportunity to defend himself," Justice Kimber said.
The Supreme Court heard the vicious attack lasted as little as 10 seconds, during which time Mr Codea was kicked and punched in the head. Justice Kimber said regardless of who inflicted which blow, all four men were responsible for Mr Codea's death as part of a joint criminal enterprise that was carried out with "ruthless efficiency"."The attack upon Mr Codea was well-planned, well-coordinated and executed by the combined efforts of all of you.The court heard Mazomenos was a member of the outlawed Finks motorcycle gang at the time of Mr Codea's death, while the other accused were associated with the gang.
Justice Kimber said the killers were motivated to act violently because they "believed that the Finks and a member of the Finks had been disparaged". "That is not to find that the attack was one sanctioned by that gang or what might be termed as club business, I have not made that finding," Justice Kimber said. The court heard the men believed Mr Codea had published identification and contact details for Sandell and Mazomenos on the platform, and had referred to Mazomenos as a "Finks dog", while another message read "all Finks are f***ed".
