St. Mary’s University is offering high school juniors and seniors a free one-week workshop on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Sergio Palacios, an associate professor, has been teaching the summer course since 2017. He said anyone can be an entrepreneur. It only takes creativity, collaboration and solutions.

“It’s about opportunity recognition. It’s about practicing your creativity. It’s about problem-solving. It’s about problem-seeking,” Palacios said. Many students like Sarah Mendez-Turrubiates, who is from Edinburg, Texas, still need to decide on their college major. But she knows business always has potential.

“I hear entrepreneurialism; I hear freedom. You have the freedom to be your own boss, to set your own hours, to make profit for yourself, and try to further yourself and your life journey and things,” she said.
