The upcoming Bay Area storm could see snow at lower elevations than usual, and high winds expected to cause thousands of power outages throughout the region.
“It is going to be a very windy day [Tuesday], and of course that means we can have tree limbs and other debris falling into our [power] lines,” said Teresa Alvarado, vice president of PG&E’s South Bay and Central Coast region. “The wind is always of concern to us.”
As of 7:30 p.m., 119,801 customers in the region had lost power, according to the utility. More than half of those customers were in the Peninsula and San Francisco, where a total of 64,593 lost electricity. A fallen tree knocks down power poles after being blown over by high winds on Walnut Avenue in Fremont, Calif., on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.
