Service. The warmup isn't forecast to last long, with cooler temperatures and a slight chance for rain expected over the weekend, and downtown San Francisco is forecast to dip below 40 degrees for the first time this year early next week.
The weather service forecasts widespread 60s across the Bay Area with the mercury likely to soar above 70 degrees in some spots around the North Bay, especially in the Santa Rosa area and northward along the U.S. Highway 101 corridor, on Thursday afternoon. The winds developed amid a weather pattern that's known as an omega block, with a ridge of high pressure parked over the Pacific Ocean off the Gulf of Alaska and low pressure spread across the Great Basin and U.S. Southwest, Behringer explained.
Friday marks the start of a cooldown, and afternoon highs are forecast to be about 5 degrees or more cooler than they were on Thursday. The weather service expects the gradual cooling to continue through the weekend, with daytime highs dipping into the low to mid 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
