For the second time in three years, the College Park boys wrestling team finished third place at the UIL Class 6A meet and is the top program in Greater Houston.“I’m always happy to bring home a trophy from the state tournament,” College Park eighth year coach Erik Spjut said. “Coaching so many individuals out there, you’re really happy for some and you’re really down for others. Once you take time and step back, you’re really happy with the trophy with third.
Manibog concluded a perfect season at 45-0 with the 165-pound championship, joining a select group of Tigers in the process. "That's been my favorite move all year, all four years actually," Manibog said."Arm bar across the back, Coach Lowe, that's what he's big on. One-on-one time, that's all he does, just pull the arm across the back and muscle them over."
Canales won the 126-pound state championship with a pin at the 1:52 mark against Burleson Centennial's Maritza Martinez, completing a perfect season at 46-0. "I'm so proud of them," Canales said."They've come so far, even from last year. I think that state duals was a real turning point for us and it's only up from here."
In her second appearance at state , sophomore Anna Vogt won the 138-pound championship with a pin at 1:48 of the first period against Paulina Butler of El Paso Eastwood. Butler was her only loss on the season as Vogt, who finished fourth at state last year, completes the year with a 39-1 record.

SWIMMING: Johnson’s Scott, Reagan’s Spielmann headline UIL Class 6A State Championships - BGCThe 2023 UIL High School Swimming & Diving season concluded on Saturday with the Class 6A meet at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. Johnson senior Jada Scott took home two gold medals in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, while Reagan sophomore Montserrat Spielmann struck gold in the 100 Butterfly. O’Connor senior Sonia Vaishnani and Churchill junior Carli Cronk each earned silver medals, while Clark junior Evan Croley earned a pair of bronze medals.
