New South Wales Health has issued an urgent measles alert for residents in Western Sydney.
An urgent health alert has been issued on Easter Sunday after a case of a highly-contagious illness recently emerged in Western Sydney, with a popular Kmart listed as an exposure spot. The state's health department issued the notice on Easter Sunday morning, urging people to monitor their symptoms for signs of the highly-contagious illness. NSW Health said a woman had contracted measles after she had been in contact with a child who was diagnosed with the illness in March.
Winston Hills Mall is also listed as being a hot spot on March 28 from 12pm to 2.30pm, as well as the Westmead Hospital Emergency Department on March 29 between 2pm and 10.30pm. He said it was important those people who attended the listed exposure sites in Western Sydney to look out for symptoms of the illness for the next few weeks until April 16.
"Anyone who develops symptoms should see their GP and call ahead to make sure they are not put in the waiting room with other patients," Dr Moreira said.
