A highly-potent opioid substance has been detected by Canberra's drug checking service in a counterfeit pill purchased on the dark web.

Alerts have also been issued after nitazene detections in South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria this year."It's a category of drugs that drug checking services are paying a lot of attention to," Dr Caldicott said. ACT Policing has issued a warning to the community after two people died yesterday from suspected drug overdoses.
The service added that people should come forward to test their substances, and that emergency services should be called if they suspect someone is experiencing an overdose.
