Prominent leaders of the Hindu and Muslim communities have gathered in Preston to present a united front following religious tensions in Leicester and Birmingham
Civic leaders including the Mayor of Preston,The group called on the importance of strong interfaith relationssaid: “In the wake of the violent clashes in Leicester and Birmingham, deep anguish, and collective sadness was displayed by all attendees.
“The meeting highlighted the positive relationships and goodwill that Hindu and Muslim communities have enjoyed for decades in this country. “A strong resolve to counter any extreme and hateful narratives being promoted to divide both communities was discussed. “Participants called on the importance of strong interfaith relations between grassroots Hindu and Muslim communities, in a search of renewed spirit of common humanity.
“We also emphasised the importance of respecting the sanctity of religious places, both Mosques and Temples alike.”
