About 1500 e-scooters could be scrapped by mid-September, with the council only required to give the providers 30 days' notice of the cancellation.
Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece is set to move motion at the city's meeting tonight proposing to end its contracts with operators Lime and Neuron.
"They offer an affordable, convenient, and sustainable transport option that people rely on. Last week, Melbourne had higher vehicle utilisation than Paris, during the Olympics," the spokesperson said. E-scooters were introduced as part of a two-year trial across the Melbourne, Yarra, and Port Phillip council areas.
