Scott Morrison has become the first ex-prime minister to be censured by federal parliament after a motion against him passed 86 votes to 50 today.
Leader of the House Tony Burke launched the motion and described Morrison's actions during the former Coalition government as "eroding public trust". "His cabinet was not told. The department secretaries were not told. The parliament was not told, and through the parliament, the Australian people were not told.
Morrison made a strong defence of taking up extra portfolios during the pandemic and slammed the censure motion as politically motivated. Morrison also insisted any suggestion he served as minister of the portfolios he was secretly sworn into was "false".
