This article explores significant historical events that occurred in 1991 and 1999, including the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Y2K scare, and Boris Yeltsin's resignation.

Less than 30 years after its founding, the Guinness brewery was producing more than a million barrels of beer annually. Today, Guinness reports that over 10 million glasses of its iconic stout are consumed daily, and 1.8 billion pints are sold each year. Alan Hodges, the then-director-general of Emergency Management Australia, was stationed in the Y2K Monitoring and Reporting Cell in Canberra. However, the predictions of electronic doomsday proved unfounded. While minor glitches occurred, the anticipated widespread collapse of global computer systems never materialized. The Soviet Union ceased to legally exist on December 31, 1991. The dissolution had effectively begun ten days earlier when the former Soviet republics declared independence. Six years later, on December 31, 1997, another pivotal moment occurred in Russian history: the resignation of the country's first president, Boris Yeltsin. Vladimir Putin, then-prime minister and former KGB agent, was appointed as acting president
