The family of an Indigenous woman killed in a hit-and-run in Darwin have spoken out after the man who killed her and tried to cover it up was released from prison on appeal.

The Supreme Court heard that rather than calling triple-0, Mason called his mother, who assisted him in dragging Ms Dixon's body into the back of a ute before burying it in a shallow grave in Darwin's rural area. Ms Dixon said it was representative of an "insane" justice system that did not value Indigenous lives.
His defence barrister, Ian Read SC, argued he had already served a longer sentence than others who faced similar charges and noted his "very good work record" and "glowing" character references.A man who covered up and Indigenous woman's death has been released on appeal.
