AAA says Labor Day travel is expected to be higher this year but gas prices will be slightly lower than in 2022.

“Oil prices have eased slightly on concerns over China’s struggling economy, and as oil production increases in the U.S. to nearly pre-Covid levels. However, with the tropics becoming more active in recent weeks, there remain threats to gas prices for the next few weeks,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Gas stations are allowed to start the transition to the less-expensive winter blend of gasoline on Sept. 16, 2023. “Most travelers will leave on Thursday or Friday before Labor Day to take advantage of the long holiday weekend,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel. The best time to travel is early in the morning or in the evening.
