HMRC has issued some simple advice to state pensioners about the need for 'proof' letters. The information was released in a low-key statement on social media on August 13, a taxpayer sought advice from the tax authority on X, formerly known as Twitter . The taxpayer had reached out to the HMRC account as they sought help on finding proof of how much their state pension is. They made the query as they tried to sort out a travel expenses claim, reports the Manchester Evening News .
' The taxpayer replied to say: 'I know how much I get. They are asking for proof - unable to find my original letters as the moment.' To this, HMRC gave some straightforward advice to direct them on what they should do. They said: 'For state pension queries please contact 0800 731 0469. Open 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday. Thanks, Anas'. 'Thank you,' the relieved taxpayer said appreciatively.
