Workers with the 1257L tax code can expect to see between £200 and £750 added back into their pay packet from April 6

From Saturday, workers across the UK could receive an average of £900 from HMRC if they have the correct tax code on their payslip.

However, the exact amount you get will depend on your tax situation. Those with certain tax codes on their payslip will see a bigger increase in their pay as a percentage of income.Starting April 6, the government is reducing National Insurance by 2%. This means you'll lose less money from your payslip due to National Insurance tax.

The tax is intended to be a national 'health insurance' policy to pay for the NHS, making everyone who works pay into the system to fund healthcare to be free at the point of use. The tax cut announced for April is the second time the tax has been reduced this year, following another 2% cut in January.

1257L is the standard tax code which most workers are on, although it can be changed if you have overpaid or underpaid tax.
