The fallout from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continued to impact the sports community this week with one of hockey’s leading equipment suppliers announcing that it will no longer be using Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin or other Russian hockey players in its global marketing campaigns.

A source told the outlet that CCM pays Ovechkin more than $500,000 a year in addition to a percentage of Russian-based sales. The source added that it was unlikely that CCM would end its contracts with those players. "You don’t want to end up in court with them suing you for breach of contract," the source told TSN. "Better to just pay them out, lie low, and see where the world goes over the next year.
