Toll Global Express Group chief executive Christine Holgate says Australia is facing a “dire shortage” of skilled labour.

She called for support for experienced van drivers to gain heavy vehicle accreditation and for promotion to encourage women to take on delivery roles.
“There is an urgent need to keep local Australian skills relevant through training and education, particularly in digital economy, climate change, and the shift to renewables.” Mr Cain, the Coles Group chief executive, said the talks should be aimed at maximising Australia’s economic potential. He has met major employers and the Business Council on skills shortages, pay equity and barriers to employment.
