Much of coastal NSW can expect perfect weather over the coming long weekend with even bushfire risks remaining moderate as the fire season formally gets under way.
Filling up soon: A burst of beachy weather is ahead for Sydney and most of NSW for the coming long weekend. However, unlike a year ago when the approach of each cold front intensified winds and fanned an ever mounting number of serious fires, any fire threat looks likely to remain at low-moderate to high levels.
The Rural Fire Service was tackling eight fires on Thursday afternoon, with just three yet to be contained, Ben Shepherd, a senior RFS spokesman, said. The recent good rains over inland NSW had reduced the fire threat in forested areas but spurred good crop and grass growth west of the Divide.
