Former child star Daveigh Chase's official cause of death has been confirmed two weeks after the actress died in hospital aged just 35. Chase rose to fame in 2002 with her breakthrough roles as the voice of Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch and as Samara Morgan in the horror movie, The Ring. According to a Los Angeles medical examiner's report, Chase died on June 16 from acquired immunodeficiency syndrome - the most advanced stage of infection by HIV.

The American actress also suffered from"chronic polysubstance use" - the repeated use of more than one drug over a short period of time - and this was listed as another contributor to her death. Days earlier, Hernandez launched a GoFundMe page revealing the actress's serious condition.

"Her condition has become critical, and the doctors have told me she may not have much time left," he wrote. "All she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give her that sense of home and peace in her final days.

"Daveigh Chase starred with Naomi Watts in the 2002 horror movie, The Ring. In the years that followed, Chase had several brushes with the law, including charges of drug possession and joyriding in a stolen car, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

She was also questioned in connection with the death of a man who was left outside a Los Angeles hospital in 2017. In one of his fundraisers, Hernandez revealed Chase had a"painful falling out" with her family, and the pair were homeless in the years before her death.

"After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA. "When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope. "
