The Cats and Swans are preparing to release their grand final teams. That story and more in today's AFL briefing

The Cats and Swans prepare to release their grand final teams.John Nicholls will present the Jock McHale Medal to the premiership coach.Check back throughout the day for updates.Geelong wingman Max Holmes remains in the grand final mix but will need to step up his training before he can rubber-stamp a berth against Sydney on Saturday.

As the two grand finalists prepare to finalise their teams, to be released on Thursday night, club sources say Holmes still needs to prove he is fully fit. He could be named on Thursday night, but given more time to justify his selection.

“We’ve been confident all week, he was a bit sore throughout the game, so we didn’t want to take any risks, we’ll just have to wait for today and see how he goes. “I’ve always regarded myself as a very loyal VFL and AFL person and if I get asked to do these things, you do them,” Nicholls, a five-time best-and-fairest winner, said.

Industry sources have confirmed the Saints have approached Walsh about joining the club, but discussions have not progressed.
