On Thursday, Optus announced a cyber attack had exposed the data of almost 10 million Australians, though the number whose data was actually stolen may be less than that. Ms O'Neil said in other jurisdictions, a breach of a similar size to that faced by Optus would result in fines amounting to millions of dollars.
