Acting Prime Minister Michael McCormack has defended Scott Morrison's decision to take a family holiday during the bushfire crisis.

Visiting NSW Rural Fire Service headquarters, Mr McCormack said the Prime Minister, who is believed to be in Hawaii, was getting daily updates about the situation. "The important thing is, we've got the right resources, we've got the right people on the ground doing their very best," Mr McCormack said."I'm the acting Prime Minister, I'm here at the control centre. We've got the right people, we're doing the right thing, the important thing is we get these fires out.

Meanwhile, NSW Fire bosses say firefighters face "a long and difficult afternoon", with three fires at emergency level and a cool change due to turn conditions more volatile. RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimons said a new fire has started in Tianjara west of Sussex Inlet in Shoalhaven on the NSW South Coast near Jervis Bay.The Green Wattle Creek fire south west of Sydney is now affecting the communities Balmoral, Bargo and Tarmoor.A southerly change will come up through the afternoon making for "volatile" conditions.
