Residents in several suburbs in Sydney’s south-east may be impacted in the early hours of the morning due to runway maintenance and other airport projects.

The airport said there were between 11 and 18 flights on average a night by freighters and other aircraft during the curfew, half of which were take-offs and half landings. At present, planes using the airport’s main north-south runway during curfew take off or approach to land over Botany Bay and the dunes at Kurnell. Cronulla can sometimes be affected by flights during the curfew.
The airport said maintenance work on the main north-south runway could be carried out only during the airport’s curfew period. The work will involve replacing lights, repairing asphalt, line marking and removing tyre marks from aircraft.
