A First Nations man has been shot dead by police after a reported domestic violence incident with his father at a home in Brisbane’s north. Police said the shooting happened in Grange about 2.15pm, after they responded to reports of an altercation.

A First Nations man has been shot dead by police after a reported domestic violence incident with his father at a home in Brisbane’s north on Sunday.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said when officers arrived at the scene, they found the father with a shoulder injury and a stab wound to his left hand. “A short time later, that man lunged at police with what we believe was a knife,” Massingham said, adding a constable from a local station with three years’ experience fired three shots at the man.The scene on Days Road, Grange, after a man was reportedly shot by police on Sunday.“CPR was commenced immediately but that man, who is a First Nations man, died tragically at the scene some minutes later,” he said.

“That’s just a horrific incident,” he said. “To phone the police and then, unfortunately, our officers being confronted with that situation, where they ... saw fit to use a level of force that will cause grievous bodily harm or death, that is not a decision that any of us take lightly.Officers also seized a pitchfork from the property.
