NSW’s battle with surging Covid numbers continues, with one expert making a sobering comparison using the state’s rising death tally.

The growing cases over the past two weeks can be tracked through the colour-coordinated maps, which shows several LGAs record an increasing number of cases between January 5, to January 12 and January 17.

Further inland, the LGAs of Dubbo, Tamworth, Bathurst, Orange, Griffith and Wagga Wagga are also reporting numbers in excess of 1000. This was out of a state total 32,297 positive tests, which also included 12,450 positive Rapid Antigen Tests.Daily deaths have also crept into the 30s, with the state recording 36 deaths on Tuesday and 32 deaths today. Hospitalisations have also steadily increased week on week. On Wednesday , NSW reported 2873 hospitalisations – an increase from 2246 on January 12 and 1491 on January 5.
