Agriculture Victoria says 10 horses have died from mysterious causes in recent days on the Mornington Peninsula and in south-east Melbourne and south-west Victoria.

Dr Graeme Cooke, who is heading-up Agriculture Victoria's investigation, said the first horse died at the beginning of July. "Any of the horses involved in this event, they have deteriorated very quickly, that's been the one commonality.Horse deaths 'destroying' local thoroughbred businesses "There are no pre-indicators, there are now signs. They're just lethargic and all of a sudden you have very, very sick horses."

She pleaded with Victorians to not jump to conclusions about the cause of the illnesses and wait for Agriculture Victoria to complete their investigation.
