Thoroughbred Racing SA says a cool change will have pushed across SA by the time its Friday twilight meet begins — but the anti-racing coalition has slammed the decision to continue racing.

Horse racing will go ahead in Adelaide this Friday afternoon despite extreme heat forecast across the state, with the temperature tipped to reach 44 degrees Celsius in the city earlier in the day.The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses has condemned a decision to allow the Morphettville meet to continueThe temperature in Adelaide on Friday is expected to peak at 44C before a milder change

TheRacesSA tweet: Following a discussion with the Bureau of Meteorology and consultation with the SA Jockey’s & Trainer’s Associations, we advise that a decision has been made to proceed, at this point in time, with the race meeting at @SAJockeyClub on Fri 20 Dec. "It is anticipated that around 5:00pm on Friday afternoon that north-westerly wind will turn south-westerly and will bring a cool breeze [from] over the ocean."which has prompted public warnings, including for pet owners to ensure that their animals are kept cool and hydrated.

"They should err on the side of caution and cancel the meet completely," spokesperson Kristin Leigh said.
