Darren Beckman had gone into A&E at Blackpool Victoria Hospital but left the waiting area and was found dead in the toilets 12 hours after he was last seen
A mum believes her son would still be alive if the hospital toilets where he was found dead been checked more regularly. Darren Paul Beckman had been an inpatient at Blackpool Victoria Hospital from April 6 until April 17 of this year.
After presenting in A&E Darren, who was born in Kendal, failed to respond to three calls between 5pm and 6pm for him to be seen. At 8.06pm he was located in the main waiting area where he reported that he had been vomiting brown liquid. Mrs Beckman highlighted that the A&E toilets were not checked between 8pm on April 17 and 7am the following day. She believes that if they had been checked more regularly then Darren, a painter and decorator, might still be alive today.
After Darren's death hospital bosses checked the CCTV and discovered he had gone to the toilet at 9.30pm. This meant he was in the toilets for almost 12 hours before he was found with the hospital confirming the toilets weren't checked between 8pm and 7am.
