There are almost 147,000 active cases in Victoria.
About 16 per cent of Victorians aged over 18 have received their third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 93 per cent of those aged over 12 are double-dose vaccinated. The health department is scrambling to improve the accuracy of the state’s COVID-19 figures, after a record 51,356 new cases recorded on Saturday included some that were up to a week old.
About half the cases were logged through a new reporting system for rapid antigen tests that went live on Friday, and included some infections that were up to six days old. Based on a closer look at the health department figures, there were likely closer to 30,851 new cases in the state on Saturday - still a record, and an increase of more than 40 per cent on the previous day.
The chief health officer’s update for Saturday said “considerable work is now underway” to integrate the RAT numbers, and ensure people who have taken a RAT and a PCR test are not counted twice.
